Peringara Grama Panchayat – Introduction

Peringara Grama Panchayat is situated in Pulikeezhu Block of Thiruvalla Taluk in Pathanamthitta District, Kerala. Spread across the Peringara and Kavumbhagam villages, the Panchayat covers an area of 16.5 square kilometres and consists of 16 wards.

The Panchayat is bordered by Thiruvalla Municipality on the east, Muttar Village on the west, Nedumbram Village on the south, and Payippad Panchayat on the north.

The Village Union was formed in 1948 by integrating the revenue areas of Peringara, Karaykkal, Nedumbram, Kavumbhagam, Naduvilemuri, and Kuzhivelippuram. Peringara Grama Panchayat was officially constituted in 1953.

The Panchayat is located approximately 5 kilometres west of Thiruvalla town. The eastern part of the Panchayat mainly consists of elevated plains, while the southern region is largely made up of low-lying paddy fields situated below sea level. The area is generally surrounded by water and is known for its unique geographical features and diverse climatic conditions. Being part of the Kuttanad region, which lies below sea level and is characterized by extensive waterlogged areas, the Panchayat remained a part of the former Travancore State until 1956.
